We have a trail clean up scheduled for Saturday May 19th at 9:00.

Meetup in the Parking lot on Union St behind Outdoor Wood Products.

We will be picking up trash from the Corner to the Granite Ave apartments.

Work Gloves & Trashbags provided, bring your favorite tools!

Good morning, Fellow Rail Trailers,

Things are looking good for our Methuen Rail Trail, though it’s still a work in progress. Come on out and join us for a walk of our trail on Sunday, April 29, 2012. We’re meeting at 8:30 a.m. behind IHOP. Don’t forget your binoculars for checking out the heron rookery or your camera for capturing interesting scenes along the way. The day is supposed to be sunny but cool, perfect for a walk.

Water and snacks will be provided. Hope to see you there, and we’d love to see new faces on our new trail.

Great Horned Owl nesting in Methuen GBH Rookery

When you get out on the rail trail this year keep an eye out for a Great Horned Owl. He has taken up residence in one of the Great Blue Heron Nests out in the Rookery on the Spicket River.

Specifically if you are standing on the trail looking west into the Spicket at all the Heron nests his is the furthest to the LEFT (south.)

Robbie Valcourt has taken a few shots of him in his nest and out of it. He may be hard to see in the deep nest but he will be the one with out the long neck!

So bring your binocs and your long lenses.

Nevins Bird Sanctuary Trail walk Sunday 19th 10AM

Bring your binoculars and your lopping shears, we will checking out the trails in the bird sanctuary! Trash bags will be provided!

At our first meeting of the year we will be collecting ideas for events for 2012!

As you can see they have been working as hard as beavers on our rail trail.
We need to come up with some great events for 2012 to introduce it to people.

Our primary goal for 2012 will be a membership drive, as we will need many volunteer to take part and run events!

Congratulations to the folks who showed up to walk on the under construction Methuen Rail Trail!. Displayed are about half the folks who attended. the weather was ridiculously warm which made it easier to appreciated the work in progress.

New Year’s Day FIRST WALK on the Methuen Rail Trail

You’re invited. Come one, come all. If you didn’t make it to First Night, you can still start the New Year off on the right foot by joining us for ‘FIRST WALK’ on the ever developing Methuen Rail Trail. You can begin your New Years resolution to take better care of yourself or to get more exercise by meeting us on Sunday, New Years Day at noon behind IHOP at the N.H. end of our Methuen Rail Trail. The sun is supposed to shine, but dress in layers anyway, and if you like, add a hat and mittens. The ground could be muddy so wear appropriate footgear.

Looking forward to seeing you there.

No limit tire fishing

There aren’t that many tires left out on the trail, but these were more in the swamp than on the trail. We skipped them up till now since the rest of the year they are surrounded by water and shrubbery. Amazing what you get get done with a bit of rope. There is still a lot of cleaning to be done in areas outside the railbed.

Iron Horse Preservation makes plans with Conservation to put up temporary erosion controls around sections that need to be protected. In Methuen it will mostly be for the protection of the Blanding’s Turtle and other reptiles are who confused by the warm weather.
