A lot of water under the bridge
As expect Methuen’s Spicket Basin gets flooded a few days AFTER the rain stops falling. There are a number of low flooded spots on the Rail Trail but nothing unusual – except for this tank, which stopped by for a visit.

I’d read that one of the times you want to make sure that you DON’T use crushed stone is when you have frequent or even occasional flooding, and that that factors into the cost for multiple towns when deciding what surface to target..
(goes off to look up what I’d read)
Here was one quote from this PDF file:
http://www.brucefreemanrailtrail.org/pdf/Alt-pav/mhd-BOSLandscapeDes-AltPvmt-BFRT1-24.pdf
linked to from this page on the Bruce Freeman Rail Trail site:
http://www.brucefreemanrailtrail.org/trail_plans/rail_trail_studies.html
“Areas subject to frequent or even occasional flooding or drainage problems, or in areas of steep terrain, unpaved surfaces will often erode and are not recommended”
In a quick search over the site I can’t find details on the surface plans for the trail, but I remember a conversation regarding cost and the choice of paving material being directly tied to that cost. Has consideration been given to the sustainability of cheaper paving solutions?
Looking forward to helping out,
